A Festive Takeover in St John’s, Manchester

Last Christmas, Courts Club went full festive. Winter Assembly took over St John’s with an après-ski inspired Beer Halle, fire pits, festive street food and enough Christmas spirit to make even the office Scrooge crack a smile.

Steins were very much encouraged, cries of “PROST!” became increasingly enthusiastic as the night went on, and there was always something happening somewhere. Think giant marshmallows around the fire, Mariah in a private karaoke chalet, Christmas films on the big screen and DJs keeping things going into the weekend. Winter Assembly 2025 was Christmas, but with a little more chaos.

Inside the Winter Assembly Beer Halle

The Clubhouse had a Christmas transformation of its own, becoming the Winter Assembly Beer Halle for the season. Red drapes filled the ceiling, long tables took over the room and steins were lined up ready for anyone willing to commit to two pints at once.

And beer wasn't the only thing filling them. Alpine cocktail steins joined festive cocktails, mulled wine, boozy hot chocolates and hot buttered rum which quickly became a Winter Assembly favourite. Food followed the same philosophy: go big or go home. Footlong bratwursts came loaded with all the good stuff, alongside giant pretzels, turkey samosas, Indian street food, dirty fries and plenty of winter comfort food worth loosening a belt buckle for.

Christmas Karaoke, Fire Pits & Marshmallows

Outside, the fire pit became one of the best spots to settle in with a drink- preferably with one of the frankly enormous marshmallows available for toasting over the flames.

Then there were the karaoke huts. Manchester loves a bit of karaoke at the best of times, but throw Christmas into the mix and things were always going to get slightly chaotic.

Tucked into Winter Assembly were private karaoke chalets made for festive singalongs, questionable duets and inevitably a bit of Mariah. Christmas karaoke quickly became one of the most fun ways to spend a night at Winter Assembly, with groups getting their own private space right in the middle of the action.

For anyone who preferred their Christmas music handled by professionals, live DJs took over Thursday through Saturday, bringing a completely different energy to the site as the weekend rolled around.

Christmas Films, Quizzes & Cosier Nights

Winter Assembly wasn't just about Friday-night Christmas party chaos either. Wednesdays brought Christmas quiz nights, while Sundays were made for settling in with a hot chocolate, cocktail or something mulled and watching festive favourites on the big screen.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Holiday, Elf and Home Alone all made an appearance throughout the season. It meant Winter Assembly could be whatever kind of festive mood you were in; a Sunday Christmas film, midweek catch-up around the fire or a full-blown Christmas party that somehow ended with six people screaming All I Want for Christmas Is You into one microphone.

Christmas Parties at Courts Club

Unsurprisingly, Winter Assembly became a bit of a playground for Christmas parties. Groups could grab a table and get stuck into the food and drinks, book their own karaoke chalet or take over larger areas of Courts Club for work parties and private celebrations. With the Beer Halle, outdoor spaces, fire pits, entertainment and food all happening across one site, there wasn't much need for the classic “where are we going next?” debate. And despite all the festive madness, Winter Assembly was completely free to enter and open seven days a week - dogs included.
